Pennsylvania Awareness Day in Harrisburg - April 18th

Help Us Fight to Maintain Hemophilia Program Funding in the 2017-18 State Budget

The Hemophilia Program Line Item in the Department of Health’s budget has a long history, dating back to the 1970s, of providing critical funds to support the federally recognized Hemophilia Treatment Centers in the Commonwealth. This funding goes in its entirety to patient care. While the funding over the last decade has decreased, it is very important to ensuring the necessary coordinated care for patients with bleeding disorders that they receive at the HTCs.

The 2017-2018 State Budget proposal includes consolidation of the Departments of Health, Human Services, Aging and Drug and Alcohol Programs. In addition, the proposal combines the line item funding for 5 separate patient programs currently managed through the Department of Health (Hemophilia, Cancer Screening Services, Adult Cystic Fibrosis and Other Chronic Respiratory Illnesses, Cooley’s Anemia and Sickle Cell) into a single line item now entitled Health Program Assistance and Services.

We need to maintain the separate Hemophilia Line Item to ensure the money is protected for our HTCs. Please join us in Tuesday, April 18 to express our concerns and tell our stories to the legislators.

We hope you can join us for the entire day as we make visits to local members of the PA House of Representatives and Senate to discuss significant issues we are facing right now in Pennsylvania. We will also be asking legislators to continue important state funding support to the seven hemophilia programs in Pennsylvania.

You can plan to ride the bus with us from the Plymouth Meeting Mall (leaving about 7:45 am) or drive to Harrisburg. Either way, please help us by participating!
